Stella & Dot trunk show Dessert Table

I co-hosted a trunk show with my friend Alison this weekend!  It was so much fun, I LOVED wearing the jewelry!!!  A special thank you to our wonderful stylist Jamie Kloin who helped everyone pick & choose exactly what would look fabulous on them!  And thank you for letting me borrow some jewels to further dress the table.

Here are photos and the details of the dessert table I did which everyone enjoyed the sweetness of the taste and the presentation for sure!!

So for starters we had "Stellamo's (Cosmopolitan's) and Mojdoto's (Mojito's).  The Mojito's were very very good I would say and refreshing!   I bought a pre-made mix by Freshie's at the Fresh Market.  Freshie's cocktail mixes are so outstanding because they are all fresh...nothing fake, no high fructose sugar!  You have to try one of their many drinks they have to offer.

Now onto the desserts....
We had a three layer lemon drop cake that was filled with vanilla buttercream that was covered and decorated with Satin Ice Fondant.  Loved, loved the lemon cake!  Can't wait to make another one, this was my first and when it came out of the oven I had made a glaze with fresh lemon juice and confectioner's sugar and drizzled some on top and it soaked in.....what a difference!  I made a necklace out of the dark chocolate fondant that looks similar to the one S&D sell, it was very cute and I got alot of compliments again on the taste and the look of it!

In addition to the cake we had French vanilla shortbread cookies covered with Satin Ice and that I decorated with little designs I saw in the Stella & Dot look book.  Mini milk chocolate buttercream cupcakes, raspberry chambord buttercream cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, and mini macaroons with expresso chocolate drizzled over them.  In the jars there were blueberry taffy, m&m's and yogurt pretzels.

A shot of the whole table...

For the DIY labels I googled the logo and copied it into word and created the labels.  I printed it out on photo paper, cut out the the logos and used a 2 inch scallop punch for the dessert labels and backed with card stock I got at Michael's.  It was definitely a great idea to have the table both for the host and the guests to make the party extra scrumptious and sweet!!

I hope other S&D stylist who view my blog enjoy the look of everything and if you have any questions please let me know!

Our little cupcake turned 1!

The party turned out fantastic despite the rain that set me back a bit and sent us into re-organizing the party set-up mode to inside, but a few hours later the sun came out and the birthday girl & her quests both big & small had a wonderful day!

All the desserts for the sweet table were all baked & decorated by me with lots of love for my little love bug~
Her very first cake.....layers of white & strawberry cake, vanilla buttercream icing covered in fondant

We had 3 types of white cake cupcakes with very flavorful buttercreams~
the birthday cupcakes were vanilla buttercream

My favorite Raspberry Chambord buttercream~

And a new one I thought of that morning and everyone LOVED it!
Orange Creamcicle buttercream, flavored it with orange juice & cointreau liquer.  It tasted exactly like the frozen popsicles!!

So all in all along with the cupcakes, cake there were brownie pops, strawberry & cream cheese cake balls, and sugar cookies decorated with fondant.  All the colors of the party!!
Then there was Maggie's Sweet Shop for the little guests to enjoy on there way home~

The birthday girl enjoying her cake & cupcakes with her sissy's~

Again, I got a few ideas from a very creative woman Amy Atlas!
Thank you also to the TomKat Studio for the adorable cupcake labels & the Margaret circle I used for the  cake!  As I mentioned above, the rain came so quickly and was not in the forecast forcing us to move everything inside at the last moment, I had planned on using her DIY printed circles on the sweet shop but ran out of time, because before I knew it all the guest were there and I had to get into the kitchen to cook filet mignon sliders with caramelized onions and blue cheese crumbles!
Check out both of their websites each one have tasteful & darling ideas for your parties:
www.amyatlas.com
http://www.tomkatstudio.blogspot.com or visit her shop at www.etsy.com
Check out some of the other blogs that I follow for some ideas and fabulous giveaways they have from time to time.

The DIY details were as follows~
The backdrop- an art canvas covered in pink silk fabric with 2 banners.  The banners were 2" scallop cutouts on a lime green ribbon.  The cutouts were secured on the ribbon with pearlized buttons bought at Michael's.
The cupcake sticks for the brownie pops, pom-poms along the back of the table and ofcourse the DIY printable labels from TomKat Studio! Lastly, I had cut out squares from the colors of the party and put them behind the white house screen I had and used it for Maggies Sweet Shop!  Loved the way that looked!

It was a blast and I had such a great time putting this all together!  I think for my first table this wasn't so bad, I can't wait for the next one and I learned a lot of what to do and not to do so my next one will be a lot less stressful for sure!    The most memorable "ah-ha" moment I had was the night before I was going to decorate the cake, I woke up at 3am and thought "I know what to do to the top tier of the cake....I'll create the banner"!  That was my most favorite thing to of pulling it all together!

Behind the Name

Funny because I actually love the name for my blog "Scrumptious Swirls"!  And the story behind the name is this.....

When I was in high school my nickname from all my friends was "Scrumptch" (Scrumptious), never really ask why, perhaps because I was sweet :).  I still run into people today and they bring up the nickname.  In fact last year I had brought out my year book to show my oldest daughter and she asked "Mom who is Scrumptch?".  So in thinking of names for my new venture and trying to stay far far away from anything like "baby cakes or sweet cakes" I thought of Scrumptious Swirls by Stacy.

So where did "Swirls" come from??  I love creating different flavor buttercreams and piping swirls with it onto cupcakes.  I started doing three swirls because I have three very charming & beautiful daughters;  Haley Rose, Emma Mae & Margaret Grace.  When I started my cupcake creations I always top my cupcakes with 3 swirls....1 for each.

So there you have it!
A story behind the name "Scrumptious Swirls"

And if some day I get the chance to open my own bakery I hope to name it
"Swirls by Stacy Marie"
I love my name~ and I think it would be a great way to honor my parents!
What is behind your name??

About me & Buttercream!

About me & my buttercreams~

I made my first buttercream from scratch in August 09, using a recipe from Wilton.  Next I tried Martha Stewarts, I followed her along on my tv video on-demand, less the strawberry puree on the video.  Then I started getting creative to make them just a bit more scrumptious and perfected my process of making to exactly how I love eating icing.  Not too sweet, not too thin…just perfect for me is buttery, creamy, sweet & flavorful!!!

I will be honest I don’t have specific measurements after the butter & sugar in the recipe.  I go with the texture and flavor I am looking for to judge how much to put in, I will give you a good idea of how much I put in but use your gift of senses to get exactly what you are looking and what you like!!  And I always use a teaspoon or 2 of vanilla in each batch & a must REAL CREAM!!

I often use my wonderful and resourceful “The Flavor Bible” when I make a new buttercream.  I always check to be sure the added flavors compliment each other so I don’t waste anytime ;).  I am a mother of 3 very busy girls and I enjoy doing so many things…I don’t leave much time for error in my kitchen.  Although it does happen sometimes, but the more I learn the less it happens {big smile}!

I hope you find my recipes useful in making your buttercreams more flavorful and colorful!  Buttercream to a cake or a cupcake to me; is like perfectly accessorizing your outfit for a fun night out!!

My Basic Buttercream Recipe~

2 sticks of unsalted butter
1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening ( if you want to sub the shortening add ¼ stick of butter)
Cream butter and shortening or just the butter very well
Add 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract & a pinch of salt (I use Kosher)
Mix together

Adding the Confectioner/PowderedSugar:
Total of 4 cups or 1 pound
Some recipes call for you to sift the sugar, I don’t find that necessary. What I do is~ pour the sugar into a mixing bowl 1st to loosen it up.

Add the sugar to the butter 1 cup at a time on Medium Speed

After you are done it should be crumbly a bit and big chucks of sugar and butter~

Next the cream~

Add 2-3 tablespoons to start.  Again this is where buttercream becomes personal to me with the texture of it.  Mix again on medium until you get the desire of flavor and texture you want.  Only add 1 tablespoon additional at time to reach it.

{TIP: if you add to much cream, just add more powder sugar.  But again a little at a time}

That is my basic buttercream!!
